I’ll be honest…I follow substackers who feel like my friends. We get to know one another. I like reading about ordinary days, seasonal change, ideas etc. I like leaving comments, which is like having a conversation, so that I can give back and support. I will only pay for ‘professional’ content that provides value in areas I need help. I say this to help you Lucy, I would love you to keep up these posts in the way that suits your values and lifestyle too.
Sally, this is hugely helpful, thank you 🙏 The Substack you describe is exactly the one I want to be part of as a writer and reader. I’m happiest writing about the every day and making the occasional point. You have reminded and encouraged me to continue doing exactly that. X
I subscribed after I read your book, to extend the pleasure of your storytelling. As Sally says, you do the everyday very well, and I like that kind of writing. For me, there are so many recipes out there that that is not what I'm looking for here.
Thanks so much, Pam. I wondered if some were here for recipes, but I am the same as you. I get them elsewhere. I want the inspiration and idea of food, not the detail of it.
Your substack is one of my favorite reads. Your sense of humor, the description of your daily life, walks in the woods, gardening, meals, and especially book recommendations that reflect your tastes are all a balm to the soul. I think more than ever the world needs women's voices to ground us and bring us together. When I read what you write, I feel a part of a larger community. Thank you for that😊
That’s so lovely to hear, thank you Amy. Really appreciate this validation and it encourages me to keep going. I was worried I wasn’t delivering the sort of meaty, informative content that people may be looking for, but the mistake is in second guessing. I just need to do what I enjoy. Here’s to our community ❤️
Ditto the comments below … I love reading about ordinary day to day life and you manage to paint such a vivid picture with apparent ease and humour. Such a joy! I’m always thrilled when I receive a notification. Recipe’s & tips are an occasional bonus but not necessary… look forward to the next whenever you feel inspired- absolutely no pressure. Occasional feels like a treat! ( … and I loved your brave, beautiful book) XX
Thanks so much, Julia. For taking time to comment and for being so supportive ❤️ I am going to keep writing the sort of stuff I would want to read. Family, food, sea swimming (we must go together when you are next here)… xx
Lucy, I love your writing style. Reading your posts is like having a coffee avd a catch-up at the kitchen table with someone you love to see. Thank you. 🩷

Oh that’s lovely. I’m very much looking forward to our continuing relationship.
Love your writing, Lucy. I so hope you continue (said while v much understanding the need to pause and reset).
Thank you KB! I love your Substack and don’t want to leave the gang. Just taking the pressure off a little…
